A Conservation Plan for Mexico

Map of Mexico developed using ResNet, showing the sites selected (dark blue cells) when a target of coverage of 15 % of the habitat is set for the modeled distribution of 86 endemic mammals used as surrogates for biodiversity. The areas with red boundaries are the current conservation areas. Those with light blue boundaries are the proposed conservation areas. They take up 26.14 % of the total area of Mexico. Only 6.72 % of the selected sites fall within the existing conservation areas of Mexico; this increases to 30.62 % if all the existing and proposed conservation areas are included.
